General purchase information: Foreigners can easily purchase real estate in the Dominican Republic either in their own name or in the name of a Dominican company.
Payment for the transaction is generally made by wire transfer or certified check into a notary account. Once the title is verified by the notary, the money is transferred to the seller. At this point the title will be transferred into the buyer’s name and the title will be registered with the Cadastral Office of the Dominican Republic.
Additional purchase costs: There is a land transfer tax to be paid by the buyer of 3% of the purchase price. Notary fees are approximately 1% of the purchase price.
